Packamama validated sustainable PET wine bottle designs in 5 days using BMT’s SMART Prototyping

We have partnered with Packamama using our SMART prototyping approach.

Packamama, the London-based wine bottle innovator, worked with BMT to bring these forward-thinking bottle designs from concept to reality.

Applying BMT’s technical expertise and SMART prototyping approach, we developed functional prototypes in just five days to help Packamama evaluate and refine their bottle designs.

As a result, Packamama was able to accelerate their product development while supporting their mission of creating climate-friendly bottles and lowering the carbon footprint of wine packaging.

The result

Functional prototype bottles were delivered within five days of receiving the bottle design and preforms. The simulation predictions were validated against the physical bottles, giving Packamama's team confidence in both the design and the process window before any investment in production tooling.

  • 5 days from design to physical prototype

  • Design de-risked before tooling investment

  • Process window defined for scale-up

The project demonstrated how SMART Prototyping is particularly well suited to novel and unconventional bottle formats, precisely the situations where production trial-and-error is most expensive and most risky.

Why it matters for sustainable packaging

By validating the design at lab scale first, Packamama were able to move forward with confidence, knowing that the prototype performance reflected what production would deliver. For packaging innovators working with novel formats, that certainty is invaluable.
